GTA 6 is set in the fictional US state of Leonida, a version of Florida, with Vice City as its centrepiece. Everything on this page is drawn from Rockstar's official trailers, screenshots and the game's own website — not from leaks or fan speculation.
How big is the GTA 6 map?
Rockstar has not published an official size. Based on the regions shown in official material — Vice City, the Leonida Keys, the Grassrivers wetlands, Port Gellhorn, Mount Kalaga and Ambrosia — it is expected to be the largest map in the series, comfortably bigger than GTA V's Los Santos and Blaine County.
The most commonly reported figure is that GTA 6's map is roughly 1.5 to 2 times the size of GTA 5's — but that is a press estimate derived from trailer analysis, not a Rockstar measurement. Treat any specific square-mileage figure you see online with suspicion. No credible source has one, because Rockstar has not given one. What the trailers do establish is variety: a dense coastal city, an island chain, deep wetlands, a panhandle town and a forested national park, all in one continuous world.
Where is GTA 6 located? The real-life locations
GTA 6 is located in Leonida, a fictional version of Florida, USA. Vice City is based on Miami, the Leonida Keys on the Florida Keys, Grassrivers on the Everglades, Port Gellhorn on Gulf-coast panhandle towns like Panama City Beach, and Mount Kalaga on the forested northern Florida–Georgia border country.
Mapping all GTA 6 locations in real life is straightforward because Rockstar leaned hard into recognisable geography: Ocean Beach and Washington Beach mirror Miami's South Beach art-deco district, Little Havana and Little Haiti are real Miami neighbourhoods reproduced almost name-for-name, the Venetian Islands exist in Biscayne Bay today, and Lake Leonida stands in for Lake Okeechobee. Does GTA 6 take place in Vice City? Yes — Vice City is the map's centrepiece — but unlike 2002's game, the playable world is the whole state around it.
What city is GTA 6 based on?
GTA 6 is based on Miami, Florida. Vice City is Rockstar's fictionalised Miami, and the wider state of Leonida stands in for Florida as a whole, including the Everglades and the Florida Keys.
This is a return to the setting of 2002's Vice City, but rebuilt as a modern-day open world rather than a 1980s period piece. The art-deco Ocean Drive strip, the beaches, the swamps and the Keys causeways are all recognisably Floridian.
Counties, regions and locations in Leonida
Leonida is divided into counties rather than loose regions. Rockstar has officially named Vice-Dale County (containing Vice City), Ambrosia County, Kelly County and Leonard County, plus the Leonida Keys, the Grassrivers wetlands and Mount Kalaga National Park.
Most map guides stop at "six regions". Rockstar's own material goes a level deeper, naming individual districts inside Vice City and specific settlements in each county. Here is that structure in full — and where something is not confirmed, we say so rather than presenting it as fact.
Vice-Dale County — Vice City and its districts
Vice City sits in Vice-Dale County in the south-east, and the GTA 6 Vice City map is the only part of the state with named neighbourhoods so far: Vice Beach, Ocean Beach, South Beach, Washington Beach, Little Havana, Little Haiti, Crosstown, Venetian Islands, Leaf Links, Rockridge, Stockyard, Belville, Hamlet and Ekanfinaka, plus Vice City International Airport and Vice City Port. Several — Ocean Beach, Washington Beach, Leaf Links, Little Havana — are returning names from the 2002 Vice City.
Ambrosia County — the industrial interior
North-east of Vice City, Ambrosia is a working sugar-refinery town where, in Rockstar's framing, industry and old-school values still dominate — with a local biker gang supplying most of what the refinery does not. Lake Leonida sits in the same county.
Kelly County — Leonida's forgotten coast
Port Gellhorn is the Gulf-coast panhandle town in the north-west, described by Rockstar as part of the state's forgotten coast — a faded resort economy that has moved on to harder things.
Leonida Keys and Grassrivers — the south
The Leonida Keys are the state's Florida Keys analogue, with Key Lento the named settlement so far. Inland, Grassrivers is the Everglades: mangroves, airboats and wildlife, and the region Rockstar has used to show off water rendering and vegetation density.
Mount Kalaga and Leonard County — the north and east
Mount Kalaga National Park occupies the northern border — forested and mountainous, with hunting, fishing and off-road trails. Waning Sands is the named settlement in Leonard County on the eastern side of the state.
GTA 5 vs GTA 6 map: which map is bigger?
The GTA 6 map is bigger than GTA 5's. Rockstar has not published exact figures, but the new map spans a whole state — Leonida — including Vice City, an island chain, wetlands, a panhandle town and a national park, where GTA 5 covered Los Santos and Blaine County only.
How big is GTA 6 map territory compared with its predecessor? The GTA 6 map compared to GTA 5 is the single most common question about the world, so here is an honest GTA 6 map comparison side-by-side. Every "GTA 6 map size compared to GTA 5" figure circulating online is an estimate derived from trailer footage, not an official measurement.
| Aspect | GTA 5 | GTA 6 |
|---|---|---|
| Setting | San Andreas — Los Santos & Blaine County | Leonida — a full state |
| Main city | Los Santos (Los Angeles) | Vice City (Miami) |
| Distinct regions | City, desert, mountain, coast | City, island keys, wetlands, panhandle town, national park, farmland |
| Official size | ~49 sq miles (community-measured) | Not published — reported at ~1.5–2× GTA 5 |
| Bigger? | — | Yes — expected to be the largest map in the series |
| Bigger than RDR2? | No | Unconfirmed — plausible, but unmeasured |
Is the GTA 6 map confirmed? The regions are — Rockstar has shown them in official trailers and screenshots. The overall dimensions are not. Anyone publishing a precise square-mileage comparison of the two maps is estimating from footage, and we would rather tell you that than invent a number.
GTA 6 map leaks, the official map and interactive maps
There is no GTA 6 official map yet — Rockstar has never published one — and every "GTA 6 interactive map" online today, including the filterable GTA 6 Leonida map browser on this page, is a fan-built reconstruction of officially named places. Searches for a leaked GTA 6 map are extremely common, and almost everything under that label is fan-made concept art rather than a genuine leak. This page deliberately uses only official sources. If Rockstar publishes one officially, we will update this page within hours.
Who are the GTA 6 characters?
GTA 6 features a dual-protagonist structure built around Lucia and Jason, the series' first playable female lead among them. Rockstar has framed their story as a modern Bonnie-and-Clyde-style criminal partnership set across Leonida. Beyond the trailers, plot detail remains deliberately thin.
Will there be a GTA 6 Online map?
Rockstar has confirmed an online component is planned but has said very little about it. Based on how GTA Online evolved, expect the multiplayer map to share the single-player geography at launch and expand over time through updates.
